Frequently Asked Questions
I am a newcomer to Yoga and Movement classes. Where should I begin?
If you are new to yoga, are physically fit and the kind of person that likes to dive into the deep end first, you are welcome to attend any of our classes! If ‘gently at first’ is your approach, then we recommend that you begin with a Gentle Vinyasa class to build a solid foundation for your practice. We strongly suggest scheduling a private yoga session since everyone’s body and needs are unique. Dance classes are multi-level and can support students according to their own abilities. All are welcome.
What should I wear to class?
For yoga we recommend that women wear yoga pants or shorts and athletic tops. Men should wear swim trunks or athletic shorts. For dance, it is important to wear clothing to allow for movement and expression! Dance classes are done in bare feet, but if you have a medical condition and need to wear shoes for support, then dance shoes may be worn. We ask that if you must wear shoes, please wear a pair that is only worn inside to help keep our studio clean.
Can I eat or drink before yoga?
We suggest that you try not to eat for two hours prior to class so that there is not too much in your stomach. However, hydrate well. A 1% drop in your hydration can reduce your strength up to 10% and interfere with cognitive clarity.
What should I bring to class?
Please bring a re-usable water bottle, and for yoga classes bring a mat. Mats can be rented at Samadhi, however, to help you commit to your practice, and for hygienic reasons if you practice regularly, we recommend that you buy your own mat. Water bottles can be refilled with filtered water we provide. We do not sell bottled water at Samadhi as we are trying to lessen the damage to our beautiful planet.
Is Samadhi a ‘hot yoga’ studio?
No. Samadhi is a “warm” studio. We warm our room for yoga to a comfortable 78 to 82 degrees, depending on the class. The classroom is not heated for dance classes.
How many times a week should I practice?
We recommend practicing at least 3 times a week to begin to condition your body and to also receive the mental and emotional benefits of Yoga and/or dance. Five to six times per week will encourage complete mind-body-spirit transformation. Committing to yourself in this way will help you reach your goals (stress reduction, toning up, gaining strength and flexibility, increasing your coordination, expressing yourself emotionally, and even losing weight).
